Capability and Momentum Reviews (CMR) help maintain your course by confirming projects have acquired the capability and momentum required to implement the project as promised. These reviews are held shortly after a project has been sanctioned and can ensure corrective action is taken early to avoid small problems having a larger impact later. Capability and Momentum reviews also contribute to team building, transparency, engagement and ownership.
A typical CMR will:
- Ensure outstanding actions from the sanction meeting are addressed
- Confirm the project is fully staffed with the correct people assigned
- Confirm management processes are in place and being used to support team integration and communications
- Confirm change is being managed effectively
- Confirm the project is effectively managing risks and opportunities
- Confirm contracts and commercial agreements have been executed and contractors have been mobilized
- Confirm lessons learned are being applied, and
- Other items as identified by the sponsors of the review
The CMR is initiated through a kick-off meeting. Documentation reviews, one-on-one meetings, and small group working sessions are all used to gather information. As team members are directly engaged and have the opportunity to discuss significant aspects of the project, completing a CMR contributes to team building, transparency, engagement and ownership.
The Capability and Momentum review concludes with a written report and a presentation to key stakeholders providing a summary of the results, recommendations, and suggested next steps.

Project Health Checks (PHC) help maintain your course by using leading indicators to identify potential problems your project may encounter. Adjustments can then be made proactively. Project Health Checks also contribute to team building, transparency, engagement and ownership, and can be customized to focus on key elements of a specific project.
Project Health Checks are completed using the Construction Industry Institute’s Project Health Indicator (PHI) tool as the industry best practice. This tool provides 43 leading indicators to assess project health across eight practice areas and five outcomes. The tool can be customized to eliminate questions that do not apply to a specific project.
To complete the PHC one or more small group meetings with project team members will be held to gather their input and assess each of the leading indicators. These working sessions provide the input for the PHI tool, but more importantly, contribute to team building, transparency, engagement and ownership as team members are directly engaged and use the opportunity to express their opinions and discuss significant aspects of the project. One-on-one interviews, and documentation reviews may also be used to complement the small group working sessions as these may help provide supporting details and a more complete understanding of potential problems.
The PHC concludes with a written report and a presentation to key stakeholders providing a summary of the results, recommendations on proactive steps to be taken, and suggested next steps.

Mitigate Risks and Pursue Opportunities is a service to help maintain your course by ensuring risks are being mitigated and opportunities are being pursued. The day-to-day activities, issues and demands of project execution often consume project teams. Efforts to mitigate risks and pursue opportunities can sometimes lose focus and momentum. This service brings the focus back on these important activities.
This service begins with a review of current risk and opportunity logs to determine their accuracy and completeness. Risk and opportunity management processes will be reviewed with the project leadership and the team to evaluate their effectiveness. Small group sessions to update risks and opportunities will be held, and coaching and mentoring in how best to manage these processes can also be provided.
Completing this service will result in a renewed focus on mitigating risks and pursuing opportunities. Actions will be updated and assigned to the correct team members, and tracking of these activities will be embedded in the day-to-day monitoring activities of the project. Regular updates will be programmed into the management processes for the project, reducing risk and increasing the likelihood of delivering the project predictably.
